In 1939, the Editor of the New York Daily Globe sends Haverstock
(Joel McCrea), a crime reporter, into Europe in the hope of getting a fresh angle.
Naive and wholly ignorant of international affairs, Haverstock
launches himself eagerly onto the London scene, where he meets
and falls in love with Carol Fisher, whose father heads an important peace organisation.
Before long, Haverstock witnesses the assassination of a Dutch diplomat
at terrifying close hand. Hot on the trail of the killer, he soon finds himself
deeply embroiled in the evil workings of an international spy ring.
With its unforgettable set pieces and non-stop pace, Foreign Correspondent
is one of Alfred Hitchcock's most thrilling entertainments
(see full film review).

April 2010: It's hard to see the reasoning why in the UK this gem of a film has gone out of print. I can only think there is some kind of argument over copyright or there is a distribution issue. Whatever, it has failed to even been released in the mammoth Dvd boxsets released in the last few years. I'll try and get some in but they will be 2nd hand and at the moment even for these sellers are wanting crazy prices for them - £30+ when they are worth no more than half that even though the release above is tastefully packaged. Shame really as this film deserves to be seen by as many people as possible and for students of Hitch it is an important little milestone in his career. Anyone who has one (the release above) at a reasonable price for sale just e-mail me here.

One of Hitchcocks all time classics starring everyone’s
favourite leading man Cary Grant, who manages to get mixed
up in all sorts of spy business and ends up on the run across country
pursued by the police and the spy’s. Along the way we get to enjoy some of
Hitchcock's most famous sequences including Grant
running for his life from that by-plane and the chase across the faces of Mount Rushmore.
So get this disc, pop it in your player, sit back and relax knowing your in the
hands of one of the all time greatQuintessential Hitchcock comedy-thriller,
with Middle-aged Madison Avenue advertising executive Roger O. Thornhill
(Cary Grant) who is bewildered when he is mistaken for a
government agent by a gang of spies. He gets involved in a series of misadventures
and is pursued across the States by both the spies headed by Phillip Vandamm
(James Mason) and the police (who think he s an assassin)
whilst being helped by beautiful blonde Eve Kendall (Eva Marie Saint).
There's one memorable scene after another with the director at the peak of his talent:
the now legendary crop-dusting and Mount Rushmore sequences -
one of the all-time great entertainments. A witty script by Ernest Lehman
and exciting score by Bernard Herrmann
complete the perfect thriller.
The film was inspired by a real-life case during WW2 when
secretaries at a British embassy in the Middle East, for fun, invented a non-existent agent
and successfully tricked the Germans into looking for him.
Hitchcock's Cameo: Missing a bus at the end of the opening credits

Alfred Hitchcock amply demonstrated why he was
called "The Master of Suspense" with this both witty and macabre tale of voyeurism and murder
starring James Stewart and Grace Kelly. L.B. Jeffries (Stewart), a
photographer with a broken leg, takes up the fine art of spying on his Greenwich
Village neighbours during a summer heat wave. But things really hot up when he
suspects one neighbour (Raymond Burr) of
murdering his invalid wife and burying the body in a flower garden.
Rear Window was among the director's favourite films and is surely one of his greatest achievements.

Sabotage (1936, B&W)
As early as 1936, Great Britain was suspicious of
Hitler's military build-up. In that foreboding atmosphere,
England's filmmakers responded to the German threat by making movies that alerted British
citizens to the impending danger. The plot of Sabotage is true to the title. As German saboteurs infiltrate England with
plans to blow up key industrial and civilian installations, the British spare no effort to trap the Nazis before they can complete
their mission. Soon, Sscotland Yard focuses their attention on a small theater, run by the charming
Mrs. Verloc (Sylvia Sidney) and her timid but peculiar husband (Oskar Homolka. The Yard plants an
undercover agent to investigate the theater further, and with that the conspiracy begins to unravel
