'If you lived there, you would make it absolutely divine; wrote Virginia Woolf to her sister Vanessa Bell of Charleston Farmhouse.
IN 1916 Vanessa, her two sons Julian and Quentin, the artist Duncan Grant and the writer David Garnett set up home at Charleston.
Over the following years Charleston became a creative monument to the fine and applied arts of Bell and Grant.
In 1980, the Charleston Trust, a registered charity, was founded to rescue Charleston for posterity.
