Jacques Daret was a painter in Tournai who, in 1427, became an apprentice of Campin. He painted an altarpiece for St Vaast, Arras, 1433-5 (parts of the polytych are now in Berlin, Madrid (Thyssen Coll.) and Paris (Petit Pal.)), which is documented as his, and which shows very strongly the influence of the Master of Flemalle, hence the identification of Flemalle with Campin receives considerable support, and light is also cast on the stylistic origins of Roger van der Weyden.
