Just look at the new artwork for these re-releases! Beautiful beyond words - they add a whole new dimension to the release. Brilliant Trees, for instance, without the yellow border works much better as the colour somehow takes away from the power of the image. Alchemy has always been a favourite of mine as it really foretold the direction Sylvian would go without the constraints of pop stardom shackling him - this is as far away to the catchy riffs of the New Romantics as you can go in the mid 1980s. The original release was enhanced by Amanda Faulkner's depiction of South American Shamanism but this new imagery works - Sylvian at peace in a far away land. Gone to Earth - well that's a complete reinvention! I quite like the original artwork but this takes it off in another direction - literally with the car and all that. It works but I can't really say why. Secrets - well what I can see from the front cover is the blackened background of the name and title. And Rain Tree Crow - well you just couldn't get better than the original cover - period. Looks good to see it again with the new, heavy vinyl. Looking at each of these, far, far bigger and therefore more pleasing than the pathetically small CD versions, feeling the vinyl - it shows you just why it's been revived - it's like seeing works of art in a museum.
