Ok, Paul Nash was more famous for other things than the influence of Surrealism on his work, namely his work as a war painter, but, I think, Surrealism was crucial to his development as an artist.
He trained at the Slade School before serving in the First World War with the Artists' Rifles at Ypres on the Western Front. He was invalided home in 1917 because of a non-military accident and appointed an Official War Artist that same year, an appointment repeated in World War II.
By the late 1920s, surrealism was influencing his work to a profound degree. In 1938, he exhibited with the Surrealists in their Paris Exhibition.
He was also known for his work as a designer and as a book-illustrator.
He died in 1946 at the age of 56.
His collected writings were published posthumously in a single volume in 1949.
