Julia Ormond (born 4 January 1965, Epsom, Surrey, England) is a British actress known for her work in film, television, and theater. Her father was a businessman and her mother a laboratory technician; they divorced when she was a child. Ormond attended Cranleigh Public School, where she developed a love of field hockey and appeared in several school plays, including a production of Guys and Dolls. As a child, she described herself as a tomboy.
Initially inspired by her grandparents, Julia considered a career as an abstract artist. After only one year in Art School, she shifted her focus to the dramatic arts. She majored in Acting and graduated in 1988 from the Webber-Douglas Academy of Dramatic Arts in London.
Ormond began her professional career appearing in television advertisements and British stage plays. Her breakout role came with the title character in the television miniseries Young Catherine. She made her American film debut in First Knight opposite Sean Connery and Richard Gere, followed by a role in Sabrina alongside Harrison Ford.
Beyond her acting career, Julia Ormond has been active in advocacy, including speaking publicly about the sexual misconduct she experienced in Hollywood. She made allegations against Harvey Weinstein, joining other actresses in bringing attention to abuse in the film industry. She continues to support initiatives addressing abuse and promoting equality in the arts.
Julia Ormond has appeared in numerous films and television productions over her career spanning more than three decades. She is recognized for her versatile performances in drama, romance, and historical productions and remains active in both the film and advocacy communities as of 2025.
