By the time Lichtenstein created this he was able to focus entirely on his work. In October 1961 he began to receive a stipend from the Leo Castelli Gallery. In October 1962, he divorced his wife and moved into a loft in lower Manhatten with Letty Eisenhauer, a Masters student.

Roy Fox Lichtenstein was born on 27th October 1923, at the Flower Hospital in New York City.
