Sylvia Syms was a prominent British actor whose career spanned more than six decades across film, television and theatre. She emerged as one of the leading young performers of British cinema in the 1950s and 1960s, often cast in serious dramatic roles, and later became known for a wide range of character work on television.
Syms appeared in dozens of UK television productions throughout her career. Notable credits include: At Home With the Braithwaites (2000, as Marion), A Sleeping Life (1989, as Lilian Crown), Blood and Fire, Half the Picture (as Margaret Thatcher), Heartbeat (as Peggy Tatton), Intimate Contacts (1987, as Annie Stanhope), It's Your Move (1982), Kavanagh QC (as Claudia), Master of the Moor (1994, as Stephen’s mother), Miss Marple (1985, as Mrs Easterbrook), Mr H Is Late (1987), My Good Woman (1972), Nancy Astor (1984), Natural Lies (1992), Neville's Island (1998), Original Sin (1996), Peak Practice (as Isabel de Gines), Thatcher: The Final Days (again portraying Margaret Thatcher), The Class Virgin (1995), and The Orchard Walls.
