Little is known for certain on the life of Vittore Carpaccio. What we do know is that he was a fur dealer's son who studied with Giovanni Bellini and was a pupil of Lazzaro Bastiani. Even his date of birth can only be guessed at, ranging from 1455-65.
Now, he is most famous for his Legend of St. Ursula cycle, executed in the 1490s.
